About the Series

TRIPTYCH is the first presentation of a new performance series featuring established artists sharing “ideas” in a low-pressure, collaborative environment. The presentation of this series is currently supported by ticket sales and access to City programmable space at a reduced cost in addition to partially being funded by the Massachusetts Cultural Council’s Creative Experience grant. If you’d like to support future iterations, a donation link is available at the bottom of the page.

Before you Immerse

In the spirit of immersive performance we wanted to make you aware of a few things before you immerse yourself into these performances.

Mobility + Standing

The first two performances are 20 minutes each and invite you to stand or move freely.

Seating is available for breaks or for the full duration if needed.

Shoes

Please remove shoes for the first two performances to help maintain a clean dance floor.

If you require footwear for medical reasons, please keep your shoes on.

Light + Visibility

The performance takes place in low light, similar to many theater environments.

Glow tape marks the edges of the stage for safety.

Matt will guide you into the space using a flashlight—please give your eyes a moment to adjust; the visibility will improve over time.

If you have low-vision needs, please let Matt know so he can assist you more directly.

Transitions

You will remain in the performance space during transitions.

These close-up resets are part of the experience.

If an usher asks you to shift, please move aside briefly.

Support

Matt and Catherine will be your ushers. Please seek them for any mobility, vision, or other needs.

Dihedral

Callie Chapman + Chris Konopka
Performer – Callie Chapman
Audio – Chris Konopka

Opening image – Artist Katya Popova

Chris and Callie investigate the coexistence of dual truths and the productive friction created when oppositional viewpoints are held simultaneously. The work interrogates the binary as an imposed structure, offering instead a fluid merging of perceptual states that generates new pathways for interpretation.

Situated within TRIPTYCH, the performance activates three plexiglass surfaces. A singular performer circulates among them as projections intervene, destabilizing fixed notions of presence and representation. Audience mobility becomes an integral component, producing an ever-shifting understanding of convergence and divergence.

Nobody

Choreography, Text and Performance – Emily Beattie
Music – “Molecular” by Molecular
“Nobody” by Eric Gunther

Emily Beattie is a contemporary dance artist based in Somerville. Drawing from her rural southern roots, she unwinds narratives using text and movement. Her entanglements with technology in performance reflect her time spent here in the northeast. She’s grateful for the decades of practice and exchange with other artists from around the world. Emily is honored to have received grants from the Boston Foundation, Massachusetts Cultural Council, New England Foundation for the Arts and a Somerville Arts Council Fellowship. She holds a BFA from the Boston Conservatory at Berklee and an MFA from UCLA’s department of World Arts and Cultures/Dance. She’s a mother. She’s somebody.

Nobody is a new solo performance that processes disconnection from ancestry and future within parenthood.
